    • promoting social development that invests in the strengths of everyone through our membership: 56 members, with 24 attending our Annual Meeting, and four being members of our Advisory Council, which met five times
    • helping to create and maintain a strong, sustainable and socially inclusive economy through ethical purchasing and local employment: the proportion of non-direct/staffing expenditure spent with ethical suppliers was 40.36%; 84.6% of employees were local residents (living within five miles of their normal work base).
    • protecting the environment through energy efficiency and reducing waste and emissions:
    o energy efficiency: 0.451 tonnes CO2e per person; an 11.6% reduction on 2013-2014 (0.510 tonnes CO2e per person equivalent)
    o waste and emissions:
     total bins – 54.5 per person; an 8.6% decrease on 2013-2014 (59.6 bins per person)
     total CO2e travel emissions –
    • commuting: 0.625 tonnes C02e per person; a 7.3% decrease on 2013-2014 (0.674 tonnes C02e per person)
    • business-related travel: 0.213 tonnes CO2e per person; a 3.7% decrease on 2013-2014 (0.221 tonnes CO2e per person)

  • The City Mayor of Salford pledges that in 2017, we will develop and publish a Social Value Policy for the Council and ensure Social Value takes a prominent role in our new Procurement Strategy. Together, these plans will guide a programme of work around Social Value across the work of the Council aimed at maximising Social Value throughout the ‘commissioning cycle’, and putting in place arrangements to monitor and report on the social value that is created for the City.

We have undertaken a number of consultations with our users on our service and services and how they can be improved.
    We have reduced our carbon emissions through reducing the amount of miles travelled through work related activity, reduced our carbon footprint though solar panels and LED light fittings and have prioritised the use of local suppliers.

    A set of social accounts are being finalised to demonstrate how we help to improve the health and wellbeing of Salford residents through exercise referral programmes.

We possess and are proud of our values, which promote inclusion, equality, openness, honesty, social responsibility and caring for others. We will work tirelessly to support individuals and groups who share those values and to highlight their importance during all of our interactions with employers and partner bodies. One example of our work on social value this year, has been our work with Aspire, Salford’s largest social care provider in helping them to become Salford’s first signatories of UNISON’s Ethical Care Charter – a charter which promotes good wages, fair terms and conditions and excellent training for those working with the most vulnerable. One of our key aims in the next twelve months will be to encourage other care providers and Salford City Council to commit to our Charter
